Wonder Dude Cometh (2020)

In conjunction with the DCFandome event on 8/22, I’m releasing this photo collection of my most recent doll photography project, Wonder Dude Cometh.

I can’t draw to save my life, but I take decent photographs (and do Photoshop).

Dolls (or action figures) have come a long way since I got my first Barbie sometime in the late 80s. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s been difficult to find a model, so I’ve been doing more still-life photography sessions, including with toys.

Wonder Woman is my ultimate hero, as evident in my previous project (Pride & Joy: Portraits of Fashion Choices that Make Me Look Gay as Fuck). I do have her boots, but I don’t have the resources to create a full-body costume. So I used a 1/6 scale figure to cosplay for me.

The head sculpt is an original Chris Redfield by Hot Toys (with two stud earrings on the right because in my universe, he’s gay).

Part of the look was inspired by Frank Miller/Lynn Varley 300 comic book (later adapted into a movie by Zack Snyder, who’s arguably a huge reason for the DC Fandome event).
